50th Birthday Plans and More...

Good Evening Ladies:
Several of us met last Saturday to brainstorm on activities we could do next year, including our 50th birthday together celebration. Three areas of discussion:
• Fund raising
○ Bowling party
○ Murder Mystery Dinner
○ Dinner Cruise/Party
○ Zumba Thon
○ Day trip to NY or DC
○ Purchase calendars (Jacki to create; receive certain %)
○ Purchase jewelry from Amaya Designs (receive certain %)
• Volunteering
○ Food or Clothes drives
○ United Way Group Volunteer Activity (TBD)
○ Gear-up - program in underserved middle schools and high
schools in Philadelphia; talk to students various topics
• Celebrating our 50th Birthday
○ Caribbean cruise to Jamaica (4 nights; $700 to $1,200
depending upon room)
○ All inclusive to Ocho Rio (3 to 4 nights; $1,100)
○ Spa Weekend - Omni Bedford Hotel & Resort (2 nights; $700,
includes extra rooms for empowerment workshops,
breakfast both days, and Sat lunch & dinner)
○ New Orleans (6 nights, via train $600+ food and hotel)

There will be several survey postings asking you to vote on the activities that interest you and you are willing to participate in.

The money collected from "fund raising" will be donate from the Class of 1980 to the Philadelphia High School for Girls. In addition, a portion of the funds maybe temporarily used for down deposits for our birthday celebration and/or fund raising activities.

Our Birthday Celebration is tentatively scheduled for the 3rd or 4th week of June 2012. This period was selected because:
○ our children are finished with school for the year/ semester
○ commencement ceremonies are complete
○ before summer vacations begins
We are considering empowerment workshops. Activities discussed were:
○ Crafts
○ Women's Health
○ Elder Care (Parents)
○ Self Evaluation
○ Financial Planning
Please feel free to provide input on activities and propose alternatives. We would like to have the 50th birthday celebration finalized by Jan 15 to allow everyone interested in attending to make plans.
